We Built artist.tools Because We Needed It Ourselves
artist.tools started as an internal system for our own label.
We were trying to answer a simple but uncomfortable question: which playlists, curators, and campaigns were actually helping artists, and which ones were creating artificial streaming risk?
At the time, the best fraud detection and streaming intelligence tools were mostly built for labels, distributors, and larger industry teams. Independent artists and smaller teams were often left with surface-level stats, vague campaign reports, and too little visibility into where streams were really coming from.
So we built the tool we wished we had.
Stream Fraud Has Gotten Harder to Spot
A few years ago, a bad playlist or fake-streaming service was often easier to recognize. The scam might look obvious: unrealistic promises, cheap guaranteed streams, strange playlist names, or sudden traffic from places that made no sense.
That has changed.
Stream fraud has become more complex. Botted playlists can look polished. Bot networks can spread activity across many playlists, curators, and tracks. Marketing scams can hide behind legitimate-looking campaign language. Stream bots can create numbers that appear convincing at first, especially when artists only have access to basic analytics.
For artists, that creates a real problem. A campaign can look successful on the surface while quietly creating artificial streaming risk underneath.
Fighting Artificial Streaming With Better Access to Data
Artificial streaming hurts artists. It creates fake momentum, bad campaign decisions, royalty risk, distributor problems, and confusion around what is actually working.
The frustrating part is that many artists affected by fake streams never intentionally bought them. Risk can come through bad playlist pitching, low-quality marketing vendors, suspicious curators, stream bots, botted playlists, or playlist networks that look legitimate from the outside.
artist.tools exists to make those risks easier to see earlier.
We believe artists should be able to check playlist quality, monitor bot-risk signals, research curators, track song performance, and understand Spotify analytics without needing to be a major label or distributor.
From Internal Tool to Music Intelligence Platform
What began as a way to protect our own roster kept growing.
First, we needed playlist checks. Then curator research. Then artist and track analytics. Then historical charts, alerts, stream context, playlist monitoring, contact data, SEO tools, and deeper ways to understand how music moves across Spotify.
The product snowballed because every answer created a better question:
Is this playlist safe?
Who owns it?
What other playlists does this curator control?
Which artists are getting traction?
Which tracks are actually moving?
Did this campaign create real growth or artificial activity?
What should an artist do next?
artist.tools became our way to answer those questions in one place.
Built for Artists, Managers, Labels, and Music Teams
Our goal is simple: give artists and the people around them better tools to make better decisions.
That means making professional-grade music intelligence more accessible, practical, and transparent. Not just for the biggest companies in the industry, but for independent artists, managers, small labels, marketers, curators, and teams trying to grow music responsibly.
We are still building. The mission is the same as it was at the start: help artists understand what is real, avoid what is risky, and make smarter decisions with better data.
